Midwife To Destiny by Nana Prah, is Book One in the Destiny Series and she has begun the series with a fun, entertaining, and sweet romance full of lively & vibrant characters. The sexual tension between Jason Lartey and Aurora “Ora” Aikins starts on page one when the two meet in South Africa and sets the chapter on fire. Ora is on a solo vacation in Cape Town, her fiancée couldn’t make it, when she hurts her wrist. A nurse, she gets herself to the hospital where the handsome Dr. Lartey treats her injury.
Jason offers to show her the sights and while the heat rises between the two, they both know a romance isn’t possible. While they wish the situation were different, the couple days they spend together are uncomfortably platonic. When it’s time for Ora to leave, both their hearts ache.
Three years pass and Jason shocks Ora when he shows up at the hospital where she works as the new doctor. He hasn’t been able to get Ora out of his mind and decided to move to Ghana to be close to her and try to win her love.
Ora never married her fiancée. But that doesn’t mean Jason has an easy job of wooing her. Ora has deep rooted issues that keep her from committing to anyone, not just Jason.
This was a great story of with two strong messages. Never give up on love and the need to reconcile with your past in order to move forward and be happy in the present. I loved how the Ghanaian culture, traditions, food and fashion were sprinkled throughout the story, making it authentic and interesting while giving the setting an exotic feel.
I have to mention, Esi, Ora’s cousin. She’s a pisser, a force to be reckoned with and had me laughing. While not the protagonist of the story, Esi has a co-starring role and a good one.

Midwife to Destiny Destiny African Romance #1 Destiny African Romance Series edition by Nana Prah Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This one got to me.
From the beginning, the feelings of loss and regret can be felt. When Ora returns to Ghana after falling in love with Jason after a few short days, those feeling just seem to grow.
A painful childhood plagues Aurora Aikins, and leads her to sabotage any relationships with men. Despite being separated by years and miles, Dr. Jason Lartey can't let go of the deep love he still feels for her, and seeks her out. Their reunion is bittersweet however, because Ora still avoids Jason whenever possible. Jason is determined to woo her, unaware of the pain driving her fears, leading her to resist him.
After getting great advice from her savvy cousin, and clarification on the causes of her fear of commitment from her mother, Ora must admit to some truths about herself that she'd avoided for far too long if she is ever to be truly happy.
I felt Ora was a strong character who maybe put too much emphasis on the opinions of others. Jason was steadfast and true. Knowing he had found the love of his life, there's was nothing he wouldn't do to be with her. Cousin Esi, a midwife, is hilarious and plays a more important part in Ora's future.
Africa and some its culture and traditions are a perfect setting for this heartfelt story. I give "Midwife to Destiny" my highest recommendation.
Midwife to Destiny is a medical romance between Ora, an ER nurse, and Jason, a doctor. The story starts off in Cape Town, South Africa where the two meet in a very sweet and heartwarming first chapter in which you can’t help but root for the hero and heroine. However, Ora is engaged to someone else and feels duty bound to continue with her marriage plans.
This is a novel about a tortured heroine (rather than a tortured hero). While Jason is pretty much perfect (which makes it a good thing that he’s beta and not alpha), Ora has to deal with some major issues before her heart can be free to love — issues major enough to require therapy. While therapy isn’t something I expected to see in a romance novel, I think the author handled it very well. Ora’s cousin Esi provides some good comic relief and is easily one of the most memorable secondary characters in the novel. The story takes place in my own backyard – Ghana – and there’s a lot of local flavour for readers who enjoy exotic/foreign settings.
Three things didn’t quite work for me In general, I don’t have much patience for overly stubborn (read pig-headed) heroes/heroines, which made Ora a little annoying in some parts. Also, I wasn’t quite sure she had good reason for believing she didn’t deserve love. She actually had had a lot of love in her life (I don’t want to give away spoilers). Finally, some of the dialogue didn’t sound as conversational as they could have been.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. The characters were real and relatable, the conflicts feasible, and the local setting authentic. Thumbs up!
This book is for readers with a sweet palate or those looking to take a break from their usual erotic reads. If you love beta males, then you'll love the sweet-yet-determined Jason and his devotion to the woman he loves.
Midwife to Destiny is a book set in the exotic location of North-African country, Ghana. Ora is a nurse and meets doctor, Jason while on holiday in South Africa. She's engaged at the time to a man she doesn't love. Jason and her share an immediate, powerful connection which very soon turns to love. But Ora wants to remain committed to her engagement. She breaks it off with Jason before returning to her home country, Ghana. Three years later, Jason moves to Ghana and secures a position at the hospital where Ora works, knowing she's still single and determined to win the heart of the woman he still loves.
Thus begins Jason's very tumultuous challenge in winning over a beautiful, yet troubled Ora.
This story was so touching, tender and steeped with goodness. I loved the natural, real feeling of the characters, settings and plot. Some characters in romances are cardboard cut-outs. These characters are unique, real and deep. I loved reading about how Ora had to face up to her deep-seated fears and pain. I loved the process she went on.
This was a romance with a journey with lifelike characters and scenes. A lovely, sweet romance.
