Because She Loves Me Mark Edwards Books
Well, Mark Edwards managed to do it again. As a spider draws his prey into the web he spins, Mr. Edwards drew me to this book. I had previously read The Magpies and Follow You Home, both written by Mark Edwards. Counting this book, I would definitely say that Follow You Home was, by far, the best of the three. As usual, Mr. Edwards tends to play the sexual scenes to the extreme, and this turns me off. In Because She Loves Me, Andrew meets Charlotte/Charlie by accident and a steamy relationship soon begins. Charlie, by nature, is extremely jealous and, because of this factor, Andy and numerous friends begin to experience negative happenings. People start to die and Andy finds himself mistrusting Charlie and wanting to get out of this relationship. Tilly, Andy's handicapped sister, her caregiver, Rachel, Victor, Andy's boss, Sasha, a friend, and numerous other males and females comprise the cast of characters. To put it bluntly, I was very disappointed as to when the identity of the murderer was revealed, as I felt he/she (I won't reveal the name) could not have possibly fallen in love with Andy that fast, unless you consider it "love at first sight." As for Charlie and her mood swings, if I were Andy I would have run from that relationship as fast as my legs could carry me! If you, reader, were not happy with this book, I recommend Follow You Home, a story written in a different vein than Because She Loves Me.Tags : Amazon.com: Because She Loves Me (9781477824863): Mark Edwards: Books,Mark Edwards,Because She Loves Me,Thomas & Mercer,1477824863,Audiobook; Audio; Book; CD; Thriller; Action; Adventure; Suspense; Killer; Murder; Mystery,Crime & mystery,English Mystery & Suspense Fiction,Fiction,Fiction - Espionage Thriller,Fiction Psychological,Fiction Thrillers General,Fiction Thrillers Suspense,FictionPsychological,FictionThrillers - Suspense,Man-woman relationships,MysterySuspense,Psychological,Psychological fiction.,Stalking,Stalking;Fiction.,Thrillers - General,Thrillers - Suspense,Triangles (Interpersonal relations),Triangles (Interpersonal relations);Fiction.,FICTION Suspense,FICTION Thrillers
Because She Loves Me Mark Edwards Books Reviews
This was my third venture into Mr. Edward's books having read Magpies and Follow you Home previously. The write ups sounded encouraging, but as we know not all what glitters is gold. I finished the book convinced I never want to date a British bloke; testesteroneless, a whining; confused; psychotic, alcohol dependent , metrosexual creature is definitely not for me. Even though the story turns and twists, at some point it becomes too much and too unrealistic . Stalking is a serious offense, but Rachel does not cut it as the bad "guy." None of it is just believable and the protagonist's inability to take action and blame everything on imagining things is too naive. Edwards' previous books also tend to show British PD as inept, not caring, overworked and underpaid with tendency to making "we're sure there is a logical explanation for all this" statements. Lesson learned; never get in trouble while in England. you're be on your own. Yes, the book is fast paced, but his writing is basic and without frills. A talented senior in high school could've written this with some help from a good writing software. Characters are stereotyped and very politically correct as not to invoke any controversy. The main character is lazy, prone to self pity and likes to blame all his issues on the past without taking any responsibility for his actions. Good for airports while waiting for your flight and at $1.99 for a download you'll get a good chuckle.
This could have potentially been a 5 star book...until I read the final 10-15%. Trust me, I like nothing better than a good, solid, twist ending. Unfortunately, this particular twist is not good, it's not solid, and it's definitely not satisfying. In fact, it's actually pretty implausible.
Mark Edwards is such an amazing writer...I've rated most of his books at least 4 stars. This just goes to show, authors don't get it right every time. It's a shame too, because I literally could not put this book down. I read the first 80% yesterday evening, then finished it this morning. As I read, I found myself getting more and more annoyed...the ending was so unnecessary.
Anyway, this is still a great book, just don't expect an intelligent ending.
3.5 stars rounded to 4.
I am a big Connelly, DeMille, King, etc. fan.and really hate to pick up a new author to find their writing leaves a lot to be desired. I had just finished one set in Vegas and had to trudge through because the characters, dialogue and plot were awful (I have an unfortunate habit of finishing the stinkers as well). I saw this book by Mark Edwards and after reading the reviews, decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise! The writing was tight and interesting. The story flowed well with just enough twists (I guessed wrong on the ending). The characters were believable and well developed through the story. I had one worry with it being set in England that you would get beat to death with the colloquialisms but Mr. Edwards kept it at the right level. I will definitely be trying more of his work.
The day Andrew meets Charlie, he feels like he's won the lottery. Charlie is beautiful and fun, and is everything he's been looking for in a woman. After a whirlwind romance, Andrew is in love. He spends most of his time with Charlie, and has never been happier. What starts off as a fairytale romance quickly spirals downward, as Charlie's jealousy grows, and Andrew starts to feel like someone is following him. On top of that, things start going missing from his apartment, women start disappearing from his Facebook friends list, and a string of bad luck seems to be hitting his friends and family. As Andrew starts to question whether or not he's losing his mind, he starts to wonder if Charlie is less perfect than he originally thought...
I really love Mark Edwards' work, and so far I've loved every book of his that I've read, and Because She Loves Me was no exception. The book was a quick thriller that made me tense at points as I was waiting to see what would happen to Andrew and his family next. I won't give anything away, but I will say that I loved the ending of the book! I'd recommend this one to fans of the domestic thriller/suspense genre who are looking for a quick, fast paced read!
This book didn't start out very promising (the couple are extremely 'in love' with each other yet they only seem to have sex and drink wine all the time). The sex scenes were also more graphic than they needed to be for the type of book it is. The whole time you are left to wonder whether the girlfriend is crazy or not, so I read the whole book to figure out if I was right. The ending was completely disappointing and didn't even make sense. I wouldn't recommend this book. Definitely not worth reading.
