I started reading this book last night.. Took me less than 24 hours to finish, and I'm ready for more.
This book is so well-written.. I felt like I was living every part of it; I had to stop reading a few times to catch my breath!
I'm not really into vampires, but it didn't matter at all.. it's so good! Read it now!
I wasn't sure what to expect from this author when I first started reading it. I was looking for something NOT YA, which seems harder and harder to find in Paranormal Romance. This story did NOT disappoint and was completely unexpected! It didn't end the way I expected it to halfway through the book. And I am too glad.
From the excerpt at the end, the next book is a side story to what happens in book one. Then book three with pick up right where book one ends.
I can't wait to move forward and see where this all leads!!!
Immortal Dilemma is the hottest band in the Las Vegas vampire rock scene. Tristan craved such an opportunity.
Callie always feared that Tristan’s troubled life would lead to bad things. She never thought they’d lead him to being a vampire. To find him she must travel a very rocky road through she never knew existed. The one thing Tristan didn't want was Callie in that life.
Blade turned down a spot in Immortal Dilemma after learning what he must sacrifice for that lifestyle. He finds Callie a refreshing change from the girls in the vampire rock scene. When Callie inadvertently ends up trying to choose between Tristan and Blade things go down a different path then either ever expected.
You might see the title and go, "Vampires?" "Again". Yes, again. But it's not your typical Vampire story. It takes place in Las Vegas where anything and everything can happen. And usually does. Remember, what happen's in Vegas, stays in Vegas. lol.
Callie is like any other young girl. Still worrying over a past love. Both for the love lost and worrying about the guy in general. I think we've all been there. Can't say how many times I wanted to smack her though.
But when she goes to try to find him, all hell breaks loose. Literally......... I don't want to give too much away but it's like a roller coaster in this book. Just when you think you have it figured out, nope..... Another loop of that coaster comes up. I really enjoyed it. The end totally surprised me but has me wanting more.
I had only one time in about the middle that it almost got a bit stale. But it was brief and I think I was tired. But the next couple of pages I was hooked again. I loved it and can't wait for your next one Kristen. Good Job.
Avid reader here, a review is suppose to be the heartbeat for an author something for another reader to come across and take a spell. Sometimes people turn their noses up at genre fiction. I’ll admit, I used to be one of them, put a trendy “vampire” label on a story was the quickest way for me to make sure it went directly into the recycle bin. How many times can you hear the same undead story – guy meets girl, sparkles and guy bites girl.
I’m saying I was wrong. Kristen Strassel’s, Because the Night, is a vampire story, but it’s so much more. First of all, there is a good storyline behind it all. A really good story and I don’t care what genre label your throw at a book, the story has to carry the day. Kristen’s main character, Callie is deliciously flawed yet naïve in the ways of the world outside her small New England town. She follows her heart to Las Vegas where her former boyfriend, Tristan, is a front-man for a popular rock band. And, yes he is a vampire.
The way Kristen pulls off the vampire world in Because the Night is really unique. Instead of skulking around in the shadows, or sleeping in coffins, she creates a world where the vampire is an accepted part of culture, not necessarily mainstream, but they exist openly in vampire bars, drinking venom and venom-tinis, while accepting blood from willing blood play participants. It’s really a different take on the whole vampire mystique and it works.
Callie tries to make a new life in Las Vegas, but Tristan’s pull is hard to resist. She finds herself at odds with the vampire community and people around her start to disappear, or worse. How far will Callie go to be with Tristan?
Kristen pulls off some vampire lust scenes that reminded me of very early Ann Rice, steamy, not trashy. Although Callie is definitely not the innocent small town girl anymore.
The characters are very well written, the imagery is vivid and the story pulls you in. Because the Night is well done. I know I can’t look at Las Vegas the same way again.
