Left jaded by her family and drama from growing up, Avery Michaels has decided to live her life on her own terms. She doesn't let anyone get near to her unless she wants them to and romantic relationships are an endangered species. Avery has her own apartment, holds down and good job, and is putting herself through college. She thinks she has everything she ever wanted and the control that comes with it. This however changes when she meets a "hot boy" in a red baseball hat.Tattooed with an attitude to match, Bennett Reynolds isn't your typical bad boy. He really isn't a bad boy at all. He grew up seeing his mother being taken advantage of by different men which left him with a set of ideals to live by. Working at a tattoo shop and going to school, Bennett leaves his free time to his art. When he goes to a party and sees Avery he feels his life turning upside down.
Avery and Bennett, two beautiful characters if I ever saw some. Raised in almost the same type of environments shaped the people they became. Avery chose to close herself off, keep herself guarded but have sex on her terms while Bennett vowed he would only have sex with someone he loved. When they come together though, it's just magical. Bennett helped Avery to see that she could let people in, to love someone she gave her body to.
Their relationships with other people is really what made the book for me though. The way Bennett was with his family solidified how much of a great guy he was. Avery's friendship with Mrs. Jackson was beautiful. Mrs. Jackson is pretty much the grandma everyone would want. I could easily feel everything Avery felt for her.
The friendship Avery had with Ella and Rachel was hilarious. Ella was so easy to love and Rachel was seriously broken. The only thing I really didn't like was the terms they chose to talk to each other with. I get calling your friends names, I do it, but all the time? It just got to be too much.
Overall, the book was simply wonderful. I think from taking my time to reread, and slowly, helped my love for it to grow. From the dialogue to the kisses and everything in between was something I won't forget for a long time. These two characters will always have a special place in my heart.

All of You Between Breaths Book 1 edition by Christina Lee Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
3.5-4 stars. Avery Michaels doesn't do serious or committed relationships. That would require investing a part of her heart and emotions that she isn't willing to relinquish to anyone. However, her new neighbor Bennett catches her eye and not only in a "he's hot" kind of way. But Bennett doesn't do hook ups so he and Avery can only do friendship, yet the undeniable attraction and chemistry is difficult to ignore.
Both Avery and Bennett have their reasons for why they choose to be anti or pro-relationship and it's interesting to see them navigate through their social lives differently despite how much they actually have in common, because I could see both sides and understand each perspective. Bennett was awesome as a character, he takes responsibility seriously and he genuinely cares about the people in his life while trying to protect them. That's not to say that Avery wasn't a good character, because she is caring, too, and she wants the best for others even if she has low expectations of love for herself.
Overall, it's a sweet story with a touch of suspense and angst and revolves around 2 people who couldn't be more right for each other if Avery is willing to re-evaluate her stance on opening up to others and to be loved in the right way.
This was my first time reading Christina Lee, and I thought this was fantastic!
I've had this book in my virtual library for years, so I'm pleased to check out one of those hundreds of unread books and absolutely love it.
I've been slow to appreciate New Adult, as I found a lot of them annoying shallow rubbish with no originality. However I've recently begun to appreciate author's like Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, and I think this author deserves to be in this small circle of approval (I'm sure there will be others).
There was so much to love male virgins are my catnip, and I enjoyed the flip of the guy saving himself for luuuuurve, and the sex-positive experienced female just looking to score at a party. Things happen, friendships are formed, and I can tell you there is sexual chemistry and tension galore!
I love slow burn, I especially love the tease of sexual attraction, the eventual hot kisses and mutual exploring of bodies, while waiting for him to be ready to make that final...plunge ;-)
This story also had well developed friendships, family commitments, dark pasts, and we saw into each characters working life. A secondary character had me in tears towards the end. TEARS!!
This book had one of the sexiest build-ups, was a lovely friends to lovers story that made me swoon, laugh and cry. Loved it, and I read it in a day.
I will also try to ignore my thoughts that perhaps he was a bit too good for a virgin - but he did have past girlfriends, no reason to think they didn't experiment. My first love was a virgin, and I experienced, and although he was a very keen learner, they don't last very long at first. Like, come in their pants before they're off kind of don't last very long (and I'm remembering this in fondness, Lol!). In books, it's all about the fantasy.
