Tight Spiral tells the story of four people, Harry, a British born football star at the University of Texas, his grandfather, Paul, Ben Shannon, a British citizen living in Texas part of the time, and Amy, a sports reporter for the Leeds hometown paper.

Ok so I felt like the book was all over the place, over all the storyline was good,I loved that fact that its about sports but you still have a love story you are following. What I did not like about the book was that every two pages was a new chapter which to me seemed very distracting. I also felt at the beginning of the book it was all over the place and you had to keep trying to figure out what was going on as they author brought new people to the storyline very abruptly without some much as a flow to the other characters. However in the end they do end up winding back to one group. I would so that if you can over look the little things this would be a great quick read and a simple love story with a few twist. Beware author does use strong language throughout

An enjoyable story of American Football in the UK. Michael Gill did a great job of explaining the football terms and references. It was a quick read, but he didn't skimp on character or story. The hero and heroine were interesting and well drawn, the setting beautifully detailed, and the dialogue seemed appropriate. I would read more from Michael Gill.

Tight Spiral tells the story of four people, Harry, a British born football star at the University of Texas, his grandfather, Paul, Ben Shannon, a British citizen living in Texas part of the time, and Amy, a sports reporter for the Leeds hometown paper.

A tragic accident seemingly ends Harry's chances at an NFL career and he and his grandfather return to England for his rehabilitation. Ben wants to be an NFL owner but no one is giving him a chance, so he decides to back door his way in. Returning to England himself, he purchases a BFL team. To promote his team and what money and jobs he expects to bring to Leeds, he strikes up a friendship with Amy.

I liked this book, but thought the author could have delved deeper into Ben's past and what made him tick. Paul's role in the book was hit and miss but I think the Harry and Amy pairing was solid.

As any American Football fan will know - and I do now - a tight spiral is a particular type of throw made by very few talented quarterbacks. This book ensures that you learn a lot about football, but couched in an interesting story about the game being brought to the UK. It combines a bit of intrigue and dubious business practice along with some journalism and romance.

I enjoyed reading it a lot. It is not overly long, so when I think of how much I could tell you, I realise that it is very well written. No rambling, plenty of swapping of point of view and both moments of fun and pathos.

Thank you Mr Gill, I hope you have plenty more stories to share.
